MEET OUR COACHES

Max Cook

Max grew up at skating rinks watching his father play roller hockey and was then inspired to play the sport when he was 14.
At the age of 16, Max was chosen to captain the Australian Junior’s team in New Zealand and continued captaincy for the next 3 years. He now plays in the Senior’s team and he is always striving to improve.
Max began his coaching career at the age of 15. Since then he has contributed to the development of many young players who have gone on to play for Victoria and the National Junior team.
Max wishes to continue helping the sport grow, for the kids to develop as people and players and to enjoy their time playing Roller Hockey.

Vrushank Thakor

At just 23 years of age, Vrush is an 11-time National Medallist in Roller Speed Skating in India and has competed in 27 National Championships and 50 State championships. ​Having “grown up on the rink” Vrush’s experience is vast and he is able to coach beginners to elite skaters. The skills needed in skating are transferable to a wide array of sports and can help improve your technique across the board.

Jesse Matthysz & Hannah Gandy

Hannah and Jesse are the founders of Aus Slalom (Skate Inc.) and are extremely passionate about blading.
Both Hannah and Jesse have been skating from an extremely young age and have been involved in an array of skating disciplines. In 2019 they represented Australia at the World Roller Games in Barcelona both placing within the top 20 in battle and classic divisions.
Hannah and Jesse are committed to teaching and growing blading and freestyle around Australia including running interstate workshops and local events. Both Hannah and Jesse will return to the World Roller Games in Argentina in 2021 to skate for Australia again.

Debbie Kokonis

Growing up with two skating coaches for parents, Debbie began skating at just 11 months of age. Her skating career has seen her win 8 National titles, represent Australia at two World Championships and coach professionally for 34 years.

An Elite Coach with the Australian Sports Commission, Debbie was named coach of the Year 2007, 2008 and 2011 and has coached 6 skaters to World Championships from 1992-2011.

Timmy Turbo

Coach Timmy Turbo (AKA Tim Mattison) has 30 years of skating experience on the street, ramps and in rinks, having begun skating at just 12 years of age. Turbo started inline and ice hockey at 13, has played for both Victorian and Australian teams and coached inline hockey in the US. His Derby CV includes playing for Kingston City Rollers and Victorian Vanguard as well as 8 years coaching.
